Core rules that apply to all Max Payne runs:

  1. Your video recording should show the run in its entirety.
  2. Only Full-game runs will be accepted.
  3. Segmented runs are not allowed.
  4. The run must not be edited: splicing or any other way of faking the run are banned.
  5. All in-game sounds must be clearly audible in your recording.
  6. Game interface (character's health, bullet time indicator, ammo counter and NYM timer (if applicable)) must be visible at any time during a run.
  7. Using developer keys/console commands is not allowed.
  8. Hotkeys, scripts and macros are only allowed to cap the framerate. It is banned to use hotkeys, scripts and macros for any other game-altering action.
  9. It is allowed to use software for rebinding keys and/or buttons, but it has to be 1 action per 1 key/button.
  10. The only allowed modifications of the game are the fixes that are necessary to run the game on modern systems, see https://www.speedrun.com/max_payne_1/resources/38q8i
  11. External software is not allowed with the exception of frame rate adjusting tools (e.g. Riva Tuner Statistics Server).
  12. If you change FPS during your run, it is recommended to have FPS counter visible throughout the run.
  13. Speedhack is allowed to skip unskippable cutscenes, walks etc.
  14. It is allowed to start your run from a save made at the beginning of the first chapter in the game (The American Dream Prologue).
  15. The use of Dodge-roll Immortality Glitch is not allowed since it prevents the character from taking hits.
